Team Schneider are National Champions
Congratulations to the VCC's Team Schneider for capturing the 2012 HSBC Canadian Gay Curling Championship (CGCC) this past weekend. Made up of Stephen Schneider, Shawn Ecklund, Shelly Birston and Glenn Smith, Team Schneider strung together five wins over the three-day event held here at the Vancouver Curling Club to claim the national crown.

Meanwhile, Team Kipp finished the weekend tied for 10th place. Complete event results are available by clicking here.

Team Martin at the Masters Men's Playdowns
Team Martin (Gerry Martin, Irwin "Shorty" Sellars, Gord Wight, and Warren Brown) are to be congratulated for representing the VCC this past weekend in Mission at the Masters Men's Playdowns.
The team finished with a 2-2 record, a couple of wins away from qualifying for the provincial championships. Please click here to view Team Martin's results.
Beyond Team Martin, there were a couple of other teams in the Masters Men's Playdowns that featured VCC members: Team Lightbody (who qualified for the provincials) and Team Mukuyama.
VCC Men and Women at Senior Playdowns
The VCC would like to congratulate Team Miller and Team Bain for representing the Club at their respective playdowns this past weekend.
Team Miller (Karen Miller, Shelley Birston, Dianne Petrant, Kathy McInnes, and coach Pat McSherry) were attempting to repeat their success from last year when they qualified for the Senior Women's Provincial Championships and captured the silver medal). Unfortunately, their playdown journey came to an end short of their desired goal. After going 1-1 on day one, Team Miller battled valiantly to come from behind but lost both their games on the Saturday. Please click here to learn more about Team Miller's results.
Team Bain (Croft Bain, Paul Dunkin, Bill Dauphinee and Gary Lubin) also saw their playdown journey end sooner than they wanted after losing three close games on Thursday and Friday at the Senior Men's Provincial Championships. Please click here to see Team Bain's results.
In addition to Team Miller and Team Bain, other teams playing during the Senior Women's and Senior Men's Regions 8-11 playdowns included VCC members. Team Gessner (who qualified for the provincials), Team Hanafin, Team Johnson, Team Shimizu, and Team Steffin had at least one VCC member on their team as they played in the Senior Men's event. Meanwhile, Team Smiley (who qualified for the provincials) was coached by the VCC's junior program coach and lead intermediate clinician, Brad Burton.
